Summary

For many creators who are self-employed and remote employees, working from home isn’t always the most productive option, if you live with others or have a limited space. But neither is committing to a full-time office lease. Coworking can mean different things to different people depending on what you are looking for - from collaborating with others to a space that allows you to focus on deep work.

For those who are seeking:

  • Quiet, reliable workspaces
  • Day passes
  • With the option to upgrade to a flexible monthly pass

For folks seeking coworking spaces, some considerations include:

  • Timing for day pass hot desking can be more restrictive so check the availability and hours. If you are looking to drop in earlier like 8am, some places might not be open to non-pass holders until 9am.
  • Day passes generally cost between $30 to 60 per day in Canada
  • Locations with food availability or parking (downtown locations can be pricey for a full day parking)
  • Package passes per month might be more economical if you are looking to drop in more than 5 times a month
  • Noise and call-friendly setups: I've been some mixed cafe + coworking spaces in cities and they are generally noiser

TCC - The Coworking Collective

TCC can be found across Canada in major cities - Vancouver, Toronto and Ottawa. Check out locations: Office Rentals & Coworking Space Across Canada

You can book a space for a day from the website. What I like about TCC is the flexibility of booking for a day instead of having to get a monthly membership in addition to the quiet and corporate environment. As I generally work from my home office, my reason for going to a coworking space is to focus on work or have a space when I'm in-between meetings downtown.

I have worked in some spaces without windows before and this one checks the boxes for ambience. It's outside of downtown Vancouver in the East Vancouver neighbourhood on Venables Street.
